The Role

Macquarie University Health has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join theatre department on a full-time permanent basis. At Macquarie University Hospital, we offer extensive cardiac and vascular surgery including Coronary artery bypass grafts, mitral valve repairs, lobectomies and various robotic surgeries. In this role, you will be supporting cardiothoracic surgeries as a scrub/scout, playing an essential role in ensuring procedures are conducted smoothly and safely. This includes preparing and setting up surgical instruments, handling essential specialised equipment, conducting preoperative safety checks, and assisting the surgical team throughout the procedure.

You will work as part of a dedicated and highly skilled team. strong experience as a exercised scrub/scout nurse is highly desired with a background in cardiac and vascular surgical procedures. Extensive training will also be provided to the successful candidate.

As part of our commitment to providing 24/7 surgical support, we would also require you to participate in on-call duties. Flexibility and responsiveness are essential, as on-call duties are a critical component of ensuring emergency and after-hours care

To Apply

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter.

  • Current registration as a Nurse with AHPRA
  • Experienced Scrub and/or Scout Nurse. One year plus experience in cardiac and vascular surgical procedures is essential. Knowledge and clinical experience in Respiratory is desirable
  • Be able to participate in on-call rotations, providing urgent support outside of regular hours as required
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication and information technology skills
  • Proven ability to establish sound relationships with peers and clients using a customer service focus
  • Well-developed computer skills including the use of electronic medical records systems, MQ Word, Excel and web-based research
  • Proven ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong commitment to own professional development
  • Relevant experience in coordinating a Cardiothoracic service will be highly regarded.
